KIM [Krystol Internal Membrane]

KIM is a non-toxic concrete admixture and sealant which serves the dual purpose of sealing concrete while creating a moisture barrier. KIM reacts with water and un-hydrated cement to form crystal structures which aggressively fill air spaces cracks and voids. When concrete cracks (due to shrinkage or otherwise) water infiltrates and reacts with KIM to keep concrete sealed and waterproof. Additional membranes or sealants are not required when KIM is used - eliminating the need for tar-based products or other sealants. This is arguably KIM's most sustainable feature. This technology requires little maintenance and improves the durability of concrete. KIM is non-toxic and is safe when used on concrete that is submerged in potable water. This carries important implications for keeping soils and ground water clean and safe.
